If I Only Knew…

Rudyard Kipling’s masterpiece ‘If’ has left me in great wonder. It is an absolutely beautiful poem that makes you pause and reflect on life, how you view it and how you live it.

A lesson I have been learning and digesting is the power of the mind. I have heard, read and talked about it for years, but have only recently begun comprehending the impact of thoughts on one’s physical, mental and spiritual health. This poem helped spark a deeper understanding along with conversations I have recently had and a wealth creation crusade I recently attended.

Rudyard delves into the power of self-knowledge, control, values and a strong character. All of this driven by the mind makes for an incredible life. By being aware of yourself, possessing emotional intelligence and having a good balance with the positive and negative elements in life, you are well on your way to living a life worth living. A life where you can achieve what you need to and are not bogged down by the negativity of the world.

If only I knew earlier – truly knew – what it means to be the master of my thoughts, my outlook on life and my focus, life would have been more beautiful. I thank God that He has revealed this to me. I thank God because there is always room to grow, to evolve and become a better you as He wants you to be. A challenge for me and a challenge for you too.

“If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools.”
